St. Rita of Cascia High School Announces New Science Teacher

CHICAGO – Josh Blaszak ‘02, Principal, announced that David McGovern has been named our new Science teacher.

Mr. McGovern attended St. John Fisher (Class of 1986) and from there went to Mt. Carmel High School, graduating in 1990. He began college at the University of Illinois Chicago, studying Mechanical Engineering, and decided to start his career at AT&T. David later went back to school, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Northern Illinois University in 2013 and then a Masters in Secondary Education, Physical Science from National Louis University in 2016.

Mr. McGovern’s passion for teaching started with his desire to help students bring real world perspectives and examples in the STEM coursework. He started at St. Rita in the Spring of 2023 as a substitute teacher. Mr. McGovern brings back his expertise in Physics, Honors Biology, and Honors Engineering to the St. Rita Family. While he spends most of his time teaching and with family, he also enjoys being a Scoutmaster, a Cubmaster, and the President/Safety Chair for the Chicago Whitewater Association. David and his wife Megan reside in the St. John Fisher Parish with their 2 children.

“About a year and a half ago, I walked into St. Rita for the first time ever to talk with the administration about a long-term subbing position. I was instantly impressed when a student offered to guide me to my interview. Over the course of the next few months, I learned that that incident was not an anomaly, they were demonstrating what is expected of every Ritaman” McGovern shared. “I'm happy to be back at St. Rita as a full-time teacher.”
